The Dell Latitude 7490, Core i5 8th Gen is AED 899 and the Dell Latitude 7400, Core i5 8th Gen is AED 999. They are both 14-inch 8th-generation Latitude 7000 machines, which means the honest difference between them is one hundred dirhams and a chassis generation — not a performance gap you will feel in email and spreadsheets.
What the Latitude 7000 series is
Latitude 7000 is Dell’s premium thin business line, a step above the 5000 series that most companies buy in bulk. The same money buys you a slimmer machine with better materials rather than a faster one. The 7490 is the earlier of the two; the 7400 replaced it with a tighter chassis and slimmer screen bezels, which is why a 14-inch 7400 takes up less desk and bag space than a 14-inch 7490.

The decision, in one paragraph
Buy the 7490 at AED 899 if you want the cheapest premium-line 14-inch machine we have and you are not fussy about bezels. Buy the 7400 at AED 999 if you carry it daily and want the smaller footprint for the extra hundred dirhams. Buy the 7400 Core i7 at AED 1,199 only if you run something that genuinely uses more processor cores — for ordinary office work it will not feel different, and our Core i5 vs Core i7 piece explains why.
The comparison nobody expects: 7490 or Latitude 5400?
Both are AED 899 for the lowest build. Both are 14-inch and 8th-generation. The Latitude 5400 is from the mainstream 5000 line — a slightly thicker, more utilitarian machine built to be repaired and deployed in volume. The 7490 is the thinner premium one. At the same price, the choice is genuinely about which you would rather hold, and that is the sort of thing to ask us about on WhatsApp rather than decide from a table.
When to buy neither
- If you want years of software support ahead of you. Both of these are 8th-generation. The Latitude 5420 at AED 1,049 or the Latitude 5520 at AED 1,149 are 11th-generation and will stay supported longer.
- If you need a big screen or a number pad. Neither 14-inch machine has one — look at the AED 1,000–1,500 band.
- If you need real graphics power. Both use integrated graphics. The Precision 5550 at AED 1,949 is the entry point for that.
- If AED 899 is a stretch. The Latitude 7480 is AED 749, the lowest price in our catalogue.
What we will not tell you
We will not give you weights, battery percentages or RAM figures in this article. Weight is not recorded on every listing, battery health is measured per unit and is not covered by the warranty, and both models sell in several RAM and storage builds at different prices. Those three things belong on the product page and in a WhatsApp conversation, not in a comparison table that would be out of date by the time you read it.
We will also not tell you which generation of Windows each unit runs. Several of our older units carry 6th and 7th generation Intel processors that are not on Microsoft’s Windows 11 supported processor list, so we check that per unit rather than publishing a blanket claim.
The honest limits, before you buy
- The 12-month NewAsNew Assured warranty covers hardware faults. The battery and the charger are not covered — a used battery is a wear item, and we will not pretend otherwise.
- We are online only. There is no showroom in Dubai or Sharjah to walk into.
- Prepaid only. Card or bank transfer. There is no secure online payment.
- 14 days to return from delivery, with free pickup anywhere in the UAE.
- RAM and storage vary by unit. The listed price is the lowest build; the product page shows what each configuration costs.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Latitude 7400 better than the 7490?
