For office work in the UAE, a Core i5 is enough for most people: the same Dell Latitude 5400 costs AED 899 with a Core i5 and AED 1,049 with a Core i7, and for email, documents, spreadsheets and video calls that extra money rarely changes how the laptop feels.
Most Core i5 versus Core i7 articles compare different laptops, which muddles the answer. We can do better, because three of the models we stock come in both versions — same body, same screen, same keyboard, different processor. That isolates exactly what the Core i7 costs.
The short version: the processor tier matters less than the processor generation, and much less than memory and storage.
Same laptop, two processors: the real price gap
- Dell Latitude 5400 (8th generation): Core i5 from AED 899, Core i7 from AED 1,049.
- Dell Latitude 7400 (8th generation): Core i5 from AED 999, Core i7 from AED 1,199.
- HP EliteBook 840 G8 (11th generation): Core i5 from AED 1,399, Core i7 from AED 1,699.
Everything else about each pair is the same model, so the gap is the price of the Core i7 itself.
When the Core i7 earns its price
A Core i7 helps with sustained, heavy work: very large Excel models, many applications open at once, light software development, running virtual machines, or exporting media. In those cases it finishes jobs sooner and stays responsive under load.
For a normal office day — Outlook, Word, a browser, Teams — the processor spends most of its time waiting for you. There, the extra money is better spent on more memory or a newer generation. An 11th-generation Core i5 such as the Dell Latitude 5420 at AED 1,049 will usually feel smoother on video calls than an 8th-generation Core i7 at the same price, because of its much better integrated graphics.
Memory configurations vary between units, so check the product page or ask us. Our guide to how much RAM you actually need explains why memory often matters more than the processor tier.

The honest limits, before you buy
We would rather you read this now than discover it later.
- The battery and the charger are not covered by the warranty. The 12-month NewAsNew Assured warranty covers hardware defects. Batteries are consumable parts and we do not pretend otherwise. Every unit is listed with measured battery health of 80% or more.
- We are online-only. There is no showroom to visit and no counter to walk into. That is how our prices stay where they are.
- Prepaid only, no secure online payment. Every order is paid before it ships.
- These are certified pre-owned machines, not new ones. Each passes a 50-point inspection (what we check) and ships with an original-brand charger, but cosmetic condition is Grade A, not factory-sealed.
- 14 days to change your mind. Unused, undamaged and complete, with free pickup — the conditions are on the returns page.
- Memory and storage vary between units. Our catalogue lists the processor; the exact build is on each product page. Ask us if it matters to you.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Core i7 faster for Microsoft Office?
Slightly, in heavy spreadsheets and large documents. For everyday Word, Outlook and Teams use the difference is hard to notice. Memory and SSD storage have more effect on how fast Office feels.
Is a newer Core i5 better than an older Core i7?
For most office use, yes. An 11th-generation Core i5 has far better integrated graphics and video handling than an 8th-generation Core i7, which helps video calls and external monitors. The older Core i7 can still win on long, heavy multi-core jobs.
Which should a small business buy for staff?
Core i5 machines for general staff, and a Core i7 only for the people who run heavy spreadsheets or specialist software. For several machines, our business enquiry page handles it as one order with one invoice.
Does the warranty differ between Core i5 and Core i7 models?
No. Every laptop carries the same 12-month NewAsNew Assured warranty on hardware defects, with the battery and charger excluded. See the warranty page.
Can I swap to the other version if I choose wrong?
You can return an unused, undamaged, complete laptop within 14 days of delivery for a full refund with free pickup, and order the other version. The returns page has the conditions.
