Short answer: yes, buying a used laptop in Dubai is safe — if the seller can answer seven questions before you pay. Who is the legal seller, is the battery health measured, what exactly does the warranty cover, what happens if it fails in week three, can you return it, is the price final, and is the machine genuinely wiped and licensed. If any answer is vague, walk away. Under UAE Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 you have the right to correct information about what you buy.
The seven checks, in order
1. Who is the legal seller?
A trade licence number, a company name and a UAE address should be easy to find. Ours: Greenheart International Trading FZE LLC, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, trade licence 4427618.01. If a seller on a classifieds app will only meet you in a car park and takes cash, you have no invoice, no warranty and no recourse.
2. Is the battery health measured, and written down?
Battery is the single most common complaint with used laptops, and the easiest thing for a seller to stay quiet about. Ask for the measured figure for that unit, not a general claim. Every laptop we list is tested at 80% health or above and the figure is recorded per unit.
3. What does the warranty actually cover — and for how long?
“Warranty included” means nothing on its own. Ours is 12 months on hardware defects. Battery and charger are consumables and are not covered, and damage after delivery is not covered. We put that in writing on the warranty page rather than leaving it for you to discover later.
4. What happens if it fails in week three?
Ask the process, not the promise. Who collects the laptop, who pays for the collection, how long does the repair take, and what if it cannot be repaired. A seller who has never thought about week three has no process.
5. Can you return it if it is simply not right for you?
Different from warranty. Our policy: 14 days, full refund, free pickup, as long as the laptop is unused, undamaged and complete. Faulty or not-as-described items are covered beyond 14 days under UAE consumer protection law.
6. Is the price the final price?
Check for delivery charges, "service" fees and card fees added at checkout. On newasnew.ae/, delivery is free across all seven emirates and the price you see is the price you pay.
7. Has the machine been properly wiped and tested?
A used laptop should arrive with the previous owner’s data gone, no corporate management locks, and a working, tested installation of Windows. That is part of our 50-point quality check, which also covers the screen, keyboard, trackpad, ports, hinges, speakers, camera, Wi-Fi, fan and thermals.
Where used laptops in the UAE usually go wrong
- Car-park cash deals. No invoice, no warranty, no return. If the screen flickers in week two, that is your problem.
- “Like new” with no definition. Grades mean nothing unless the seller publishes what each grade means.
- No battery figure. The most expensive surprise, and the most common silence.
- Corporate-locked machines. Ex-company laptops still enrolled in a management system can be unusable. A real quality check catches this.
- Prices that are too good. On a AED 450 “Core i7”, something is wrong — the spec, the condition, or the existence of the laptop.
What buying from NewAsNew looks like
Prepaid order on the website, invoice from a UAE company, free delivery — next working day to Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, 1–3 working days to other emirates — 14-day returns with free pickup, and a 12-month warranty on hardware. There is no walk-in showroom; we are an online-only store, and we say so rather than implying otherwise. See how buying works.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to sell used laptops in the UAE?
Yes, with a valid trade licence covering the activity. Consumers are protected by Federal Law No. 15 of 2020, which gives you the right to correct information and to a remedy for defective goods.
Can I inspect the laptop before paying?
We are online-only, so there is no showroom visit. Instead you get the 50-point check, the recorded battery health, and 14 days to return it for a full refund with free pickup if it is not right.
Do used laptops come with a genuine Windows licence?
Each machine is set up and tested before dispatch. If you need a specific licensing arrangement for a company fleet, ask us through business and bulk orders before you order.
What does Grade A mean on your site?
It describes cosmetic condition and function after our inspection, not a marketing label. The quality check page sets out what is tested.
Can I pay secure online payment?
No, orders are prepaid online.
Ask us the hard questions first
Send the seven questions above to any seller, including us. Our WhatsApp is +971 56 377 7421. If we cannot answer one of them about a specific unit, we would rather tell you than sell you the wrong machine.
