Accounting work is the clearest case in this whole catalogue where spending more buys you almost nothing. Tally, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Sage and the desktop clients for most mid-market ERP systems were written to run on ordinary office hardware. They are database applications. They want a fast disk, enough memory to hold a working set, and a screen you can read a trial balance on. They do not want a graphics card.
What accounting work does want, badly, is reliability — because an afternoon lost to a dead laptop during VAT filing week costs far more than the difference between a Core i5 and a Core i7.
What accounting and ERP work actually needs
- A solid-state drive. This is the single biggest factor in how fast Tally opens a large company file or how quickly a report runs. Every laptop on this page is listed with SSD storage.
- A readable screen. Reconciling ledgers on a cramped display is a daily tax on your eyes. The 15.6-inch Latitude 5590 and Latitude 5520 give you more rows on screen, which matters more than people expect.
- Enough memory for your actual workload. A single Tally company and a browser is undemanding. Several ERP windows, Excel with large workbooks and a Teams call at once is not. - A number pad, if you live in one. The 15.6-inch bodies have one. The 14-inch bodies generally do not. For heads-down data entry this is a real productivity difference, and an external keypad is a perfectly good alternative.
- Boring, dependable hardware. Ex-corporate Latitudes were bought by finance departments for finance staff. That is the whole argument.
Why a Core i7 is usually the wrong purchase here
We sell Core i7 machines and we are happy to sell you one, but we would rather tell you the truth: for Tally and most ERP clients, the processor is not the bottleneck. The disk and memory are. Spending the difference between a Core i5 and a Core i7 on a larger screen or more memory will make your day faster. Spending it on the processor will not.

It is a 15.6-inch 8th-generation Core i5 — the bigger screen and the number pad are worth far more to an accountant than a faster chip, and it costs AED 50 more than the 14-inch Latitude 5400. If your desk is tight or you carry the machine to clients, take the Latitude 5400 at AED 899 instead.

Will Tally Prime run well on an 8th-generation Core i5?
Yes. Tally is a lightweight application by modern standards and the limiting factor is almost always disk speed, not the processor. Every unit we list uses SSD storage. If you run unusually large company files or many simultaneous companies, message us on WhatsApp with the detail and we will tell you honestly whether to step up.
Do these laptops come with Microsoft Office or Tally pre-installed?
No. We ship the operating system, and licensed software is yours to install. We do not bundle or resell software licences, and we will not pre-install anything unlicensed.
I need a number pad for data entry. Which models have one?
The 15.6-inch bodies — the Latitude 5590 and the Latitude 5520 on this page — have a number pad. The 14-inch Latitude 5400, 5490 and 5420 do not. An external USB number pad is an inexpensive and genuinely good solution if you prefer the smaller laptop.
Can my company get a VAT invoice?
