Best Laptop for School Children in the UAE Under AED 900

A certified pre-owned laptop that is genuinely good enough for UAE school work starts at AED 749 — the Dell Latitude 5570 or Latitude 5580 — and for school use, a parent spending more than AED 899 is usually buying something the child will not use.

Schools in the UAE increasingly expect a device at home: Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams, a browser, a word processor, some presentations, and video for lessons. That is a light workload. The pressure parents feel to buy something impressive is almost entirely disconnected from what the school actually requires.

There is a second argument for buying at this price, and it is the practical one. Laptops owned by children get dropped, sat on, and left in cars. An AED 749 ex-corporate machine with a metal chassis survives that life better than a new AED 1,500 consumer laptop with a plastic body — and if the worst happens, you have lost AED 749.

If you are buying for a university student rather than a school child, the budget and the requirements are different: our guide to laptops for students under AED 1,500 is the right page for that.

What a school child actually needs

  • A solid-state drive, so it starts quickly. A child who waits two minutes for a laptop to boot will not use it. Every machine on this page is listed with SSD storage, and this is the single biggest difference between these and the cheap old laptops sold on classifieds.
  • A working webcam and microphone. For online lessons. Both are part of our 50-point inspection.
  • A keyboard that survives. Ex-corporate machines have better key mechanisms and metal hinges than consumer laptops at twice the price. Hinges are one of the first things to fail on a child’s laptop, and one of the things we check.
  • Enough battery to get through homework. Every unit we list has measured battery health of 80% or more, recorded per unit. It is not a new battery.
  • Not a gaming laptop. If you want to know honestly what a business laptop will and will not run, we cover it in a separate guide. For school work it is the wrong question.

The six machines under AED 900, and how they differ

Three sit at AED 749. The Latitude 5570 is a 15.6-inch body with a 6th-generation Core i5 — the biggest screen at the lowest price, best for a child who works at a desk. The Latitude 5580 is a 15.6-inch body with a newer 7th-generation chip. The Latitude 7480 is a 14-inch machine from Dell’s thinner premium 7000 series — the one to pick if the laptop travels to school in a bag every day.

At AED 799, the Latitude 7470 is another 14-inch 7000-series machine. At AED 899 you get a real generational jump: the Latitude 7490 and the Latitude 5400 both carry 8th-generation Core i5 processors, which is the most noticeable upgrade available inside this budget.

Memory and storage configurations vary between units. The product pages carry the detail for each specific machine, and you can always ask us on WhatsApp before ordering.

If you want one answer: the Dell Latitude 7490 at AED 899. The 8th-generation processor will stay useful for several more school years than a 6th-generation one, and the 14-inch 7000-series body is light enough to carry daily. If AED 899 is beyond the budget, the Latitude 7480 at AED 749 is the same shape with an older chip and is still a completely reasonable school machine.

The honest limits, before you buy

We would rather you read this now than discover it later.

  • The battery and the charger are not covered by the warranty. The 12-month NewAsNew Assured warranty covers hardware defects. Batteries are consumable parts and we do not pretend otherwise. Every unit is listed with measured battery health of 80% or more.
  • We are online-only. There is no showroom to visit and no counter to walk into. That is how our prices stay where they are.
  • Prepaid only, no secure online payment. Every order is paid before it ships.
  • These are certified pre-owned machines, not new ones. Each passes a 50-point inspection (what we check) and ships with an original-brand charger, but cosmetic condition is Grade A, not factory-sealed.
  • 14 days to change your mind. Unused, undamaged and complete, with free pickup — the conditions are on the returns page.
  • Memory and storage vary between units. Our catalogue lists the processor; the exact build is on each product page. Ask us if it matters to you.

Frequently asked questions

Is a six-year-old laptop really good enough for school?

For browser-based schoolwork, documents, presentations and video lessons, yes. These are ex-corporate machines with solid-state storage, which is what makes them feel responsive. Where they are not good enough is demanding creative software or gaming — if your child needs either, this is not the right price band and we would rather say so.

What if my child damages it?

The 12-month warranty covers hardware defects, not accidental damage, and the battery and charger are excluded from it as well. That is the honest position. Part of the argument for buying at AED 749 is precisely that accidental damage is a smaller loss than it would be on a new laptop.

Will it run Microsoft Teams and Google Classroom?

Yes. Both are undemanding and run well on every machine on this page. Teams video calls are the heaviest thing a school laptop normally does, and these handle them.

Can I return it if it is not suitable for my child?

Yes — within 14 days of delivery, unused, undamaged and complete, for a full refund with free pickup. Our returns page sets out the conditions, and your rights under UAE Federal Law 15 of 2020 are covered in our guide to consumer rights when buying electronics.

Do you deliver to Al Ain and the northern emirates?

Yes, free across the UAE. Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman are next working day; other emirates take one to three working days. We are online-only and prepaid-only, with no secure online payment.
