Short answer: Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event is on Tuesday 9 September 2026 at 10:00am Pacific, which is 9:00pm UAE time the same evening. Three phones are expected: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable. There is no standard iPhone 18 this autumn — it is reported to have moved to spring 2027. What we do have is a straight answer to the question people actually ask us in launch week: does a big Apple launch make everything else cheaper? Partly. Here is where it does and where it does not.

Some of it will be wrong by tomorrow night. We are labelling it rather than presenting rumour as fact, because that is the entire point of this shop.

The genuinely new thing is the split schedule. If it holds, Apple moves from one launch a year to two — Pro models in autumn, standard models in spring. That changes the rhythm of when older models get cheaper, which is the part that matters to anyone buying pre-owned.
Does an iPhone launch make other tech cheaper in the UAE?
This is the question we get asked in launch week every year, usually by someone who is not actually shopping for an iPhone. The honest answer has three parts.
1. It moves iPhone prices. Reliably.
In the weeks after an Apple keynote, two things happen at once in the UAE second-hand market. Upgraders sell their old handsets, so supply of the previous two generations rises and asking prices soften. And a large volume of unchecked, ungraded stock hits the classifieds at the same time, because everyone clearing a handset quickly wants it gone this month.
Both are true simultaneously. It is a good moment to buy a pre-owned iPhone and a dangerous moment to buy one carelessly. If you are going to, insist on the battery health percentage as a number, an IMEI you can check yourself, confirmation that Activation Lock is off, and a written warranty. We do not sell phones in the UAE, so we have no stake in where you buy one — that list is what we would want if we did.
2. It barely moves laptop prices. And this year, laptops moved the other way.
Apple launching a phone does not change what a Dell Latitude is worth. Laptop pricing in 2026 has been driven by something entirely unrelated and much larger: memory and storage. DRAM and NAND contract prices rose sharply through 2026 as manufacturing capacity was redirected towards AI data-centre demand. That has pushed the cost of RAM and SSDs up across the whole industry, and new laptop prices with them.
Which produces an unusual situation. Ordinarily, a pre-owned laptop is cheaper than new because it is older. Right now it is also cheaper because the components inside a 2020 machine were bought at 2020 memory prices. That gap is wider in 2026 than it has been in years, and it is the single strongest argument for buying certified pre-owned this season — more so than any Apple event.
3. It moves attention, and attention is what sellers exploit
Launch week is when “70% off” appears on things that were never sold at the higher price. If a struck-through price is not a price that seller genuinely charged recently, it is not a discount, it is a decoration. That applies to us as much as anyone: judge a price by what the machine is worth to you, not by the number crossed out next to it.
